Here is a diagram and a nice looking picture of my personal Homelab. It is used for testing, hosting different kinds of environments and evaluating VMware products in general. From a networking and external connectivity point, I recently switched from an all in one AVM FritzBox solution to an environment with many different components. A Vigor 130 as DSL modem, an AVM FritzBox for WiFi and telephones and a virtual Sophos UTM as gateway, firewall and pppoe device. This gives me the flexibility to host websites, connect externally via VPN and provides me granular control over the ports that are forwarded.
